Privacy First

We collect as little data as possible. Here's exactly what we do and don't do with your information.

Our Approach to Privacy

Fuji Temp is a small editorial operation run by three people who camp for fun. We're not a tech company. We don't have data scientists, user acquisition teams, or a monetization strategy built on selling your personal information. Our privacy policy reflects that reality: we collect minimal data, we use it only to keep the site running and understand what content people find useful, and we don't share it with anyone except our hosting provider, who needs it to serve the website.

This policy explains what information we collect, how we collect it, what we use it for, and what rights you have regarding your data. We've written it in plain English because legal jargon doesn't help anyone make informed decisions. If you have questions after reading this, contact us.

Information We Collect

We collect two categories of information: information you voluntarily provide, and information collected automatically when you visit the site.

Information You Provide

The only situation in which we actively collect personal information from you is when you use our contact form. When you submit the form, we collect your name, email address, the topic you selected, and your message. This information is sent to us via email and stored in our email system. We use it solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not add your email address to any marketing list. We do not share your contact details with third parties. We retain emails for up to 24 months, after which they are deleted.

When you purchase our downloadable Fuji Lakes Camping Guide PDF, your payment is processed by our payment processor (Stripe or PayPal, depending on your selection). We do not collect or store your credit card information. We receive your name, email address, and purchase details (date, amount, product) from the payment processor so we can deliver your purchase and handle refund requests. This information is retained for accounting and tax purposes for the period required by law (7 years for US tax records).

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare / static hosting) automatically collects certain technical information: your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring website (if any), the pages you visit on our site, and the dates and times of your visits. This information is collected in server logs and is necessary for the technical operation of the website — troubleshooting errors, preventing abuse, and ensuring the site loads correctly for different browsers and devices.

We use cookies to understand which lake guides people read before they visit the region. This is anonymized analytics data — we see that someone read the Lake Motosu section, but we don't know who that person is. Our analytics are privacy-focused and do not track you across other websites. See our Cookie Guide for detailed information about the cookies we use and how to manage them.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

What We Don't Do

We want to be explicit about our limitations. We do not:

Third Parties

We share information with only one category of third party: our hosting and infrastructure providers. These companies (currently Cloudflare for DNS and security, and our static hosting provider for serving website files) process technical data (IP addresses, browser information) as necessary to deliver the website to your device. These providers have their own privacy policies and are bound by data processing agreements that restrict how they can use this information.

Our payment processors (Stripe and PayPal) process your payment information when you purchase our PDF guide. They have their own privacy policies and security standards. We do not have access to your credit card number or bank account details.

Data Retention

Contact form submissions are retained for 24 months, after which they are deleted. Purchase records are retained for 7 years as required by US tax law. Server logs are retained by our hosting provider for 30 days, after which they are automatically deleted. Analytics data (anonymized) is retained indefinitely in aggregated form but cannot be linked to individual users.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us with your request. We'll respond within 30 days. We don't charge a fee for processing these requests unless they're manifestly unfounded or excessive.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information. Our website is served over HTTPS, which encrypts data in transit between our servers and your browser. We use a reputable hosting provider with security measures in place to protect against unauthorized access. However, no internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 16, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
