What Are Cookies?

Lake Stats Cookies (Analytics)
We use a privacy-focused analytics tool to understand which articles and lake guides are most popular. This helps us decide what content to prioritize and update. The analytics data is anonymized — we see that someone read the Lake Motosu camping section, but we don't know who that person is, where they live, or what other websites they visit.
Specifically, Lake Stats cookies allow us to:
- Count how many people visit each page on our site
- See which lake guides are read most frequently
- Understand how people navigate through the site (which pages they visit in sequence)
- Identify content that might need updating based on traffic patterns
Our analytics do not: collect your IP address in a identifiable form, track you across other websites, build a profile of your interests, or share data with advertising networks. The analytics data is aggregated and cannot be linked to individual users.
These cookies are off by default. When you first visit our site, Lake Stats cookies are not active. You can opt in through the cookie banner or the settings modal if you want to help us understand which content is popular.
Partners Cookies (Affiliate)
We occasionally recommend outdoor gear in our articles, and some of those recommendations include affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link, a cookie is placed on your browser that lets the retailer know you came from our site. If you make a purchase, we may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.
Partners cookies are only set when you click an affiliate link. They are not set automatically when you visit our site. They allow us to:
- Track whether a purchase was made after someone clicked our affiliate link
- Calculate commissions owed to us by affiliate partners
- Understand which gear recommendations are most helpful to readers
These cookies are off by default. They're only activated if you click an affiliate link, at which point we ask for your consent. You can decline, and the link will still work — we just won't earn a commission if you make a purchase.
Third-Party Cookies
We do not allow third-party advertising networks to set cookies on our site. We do not use social media sharing buttons that load tracking scripts. We do not embed content from platforms that track your viewing behavior. The only third-party cookies that may be present are those set by our hosting/security provider for technical purposes (detecting malicious traffic, preventing abuse) and by payment processors when you complete a purchase.
How Long Cookies Last
Our essential cookies expire after 12 months or when you clear your browser cookies, whichever comes first. Analytics cookies, if you've opted in, expire after 6 months. Affiliate cookies typically last 30 days from the date you click the link (this is set by the retailer, not by us).

Through Our Cookie Banner
When you first visit Fuji Temp, you'll see a cookie banner at the bottom of the page. You have three options:
- "Got It" — Accepts all cookie categories (Essential, Lake Stats, and Partners if you click an affiliate link)
- "No Thanks" — Accepts only Essential cookies, declines Lake Stats and Partners
- "Settings" — Opens a modal where you can toggle individual cookie categories on or off
You can change your preferences at any time by clicking "Cookie Settings" in the footer (note: we'll add a footer link in a future update; for now, clear your browser cookies to reset preferences).
Through Your Browser
All major web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can:
- View what cookies are stored and delete individual cookies
- Block all cookies from all websites
- Block third-party cookies while allowing first-party cookies
- Set your browser to delete cookies when you close it

"Do Not Track" Signals
Our website respects "Do Not Track" signals sent by browsers. If you have DNT enabled, we automatically disable Lake Stats and Partners cookies, regardless of any previous consent. Essential cookies remain active because they're necessary for the site to function.

We may update this Cookie Guide from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use or changes in applicable law. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
